The Turkish Parliament is discussing the country's first Climate Law proposal today. The proposed law aims to legally establish national strategies to combat climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate the green transition, and create a carbon market.

According to the proposal, the Climate Change Presidency will prepare strategic reports and establish an Emission Trading System (ETS). Turkey's Green Taxonomy will be created, and a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism may be implemented.

Institutions will have until December 31, 2027, to comply with the legislation, with a possible extension of one year by Ministry decision.
